A key highlight of the program鈥檚 commitment to service, the Herzing online MSW program was awarded the 鈥攆unded by the 鈥攖o support mental health training and workforce development for caregivers of youth in the greater Milwaukee area.

Through this initiative, the MSW program partnered with Medical College of Milwaukee (MCW) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (BGCGM) to provide educational resources for caregivers, complementing BGCGM鈥檚 youth programming. This collaboration aimed to empower caregivers, strengthen their relationships with the children they support and ultimately foster healthier, more confident youth.

SUDEALS: Preventing Substance Use Disorder

The Herzing MSW program was also recently selected as one of ten programs across the country to participate in the CSWE , awarding the university a $33,000 grant over the next three years to enhance social work workforce capacity in substance use disorders.

The program will provide stipends for students and faculty, as well as specialized learning opportunities focused on substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery. Students will also benefit from travel stipends to attend a policy event in Washington D.C. and mentorship with the project director, Dr. KaRon Spriggs-Bethea.

"The SUDEALS program is yet another example of many opportunities I have had at Herzing to give back to the students and the communities. As a social worker, I am so honored to serve as the Project Director of the program,鈥 said Dr. Spriggs-Bethea. 鈥淎s I have told the SUDEALS program selected students, had I not had this experience in the methadone clinic, I don鈥檛 think that I would be where I am today. Working in substance use treatment has opened up so many doors for me, and I am so grateful for that!"
