What My BSN Means to Me

My name is Cameron Herron, and I鈥檓 pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at 小黄书.

For me, nursing is not simply a profession; it鈥檚 a calling that blends science, skill, and service. once said, 鈥淚 attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse.鈥 Those words have shaped the way I approach my education and my life: show up, put in the work and never settle for 鈥済ood enough.鈥

I chose nursing because I believe in the power of presence during life鈥檚 most critical moments. When patients and their families face uncertainty, a nurse can offer more than just medical intervention; they can provide calm, clarity and hope. That combination of expertise and empathy is what drew me in.

The BSN program isn鈥檛 just a step toward a career; it鈥檚 a rigorous foundation that sharpens clinical judgment, builds leadership skills and develops the confidence to make critical decisions under pressure. I knew that if I wanted to excel in healthcare, I needed a path that would challenge me to grow every single day.

If my journey had to be defined in one phrase, it would be this: pressure reveals potential. Nursing school tests are far more than academic knowledge. It demands quick thinking, adaptability, and emotional resilience.

Some days are marked by victories, successfully completing a complex skill in the lab or earning gratitude from a patient during clinicals. Other days are harder, pushing me to dig deeper and keep going even when I鈥檓 mentally and physically drained. Those moments, both good and challenging, are what shape me into a professional who can remain steady, think clearly, and act decisively when lives depend on it.

While earning my BSN is my immediate focus, it鈥檚 only the beginning of my journey. My long-term goal is to attend medical school, expanding my role in patient care while continuing to build on the foundation nursing has given me.

After graduation, I plan to work part-time as a nurse while pursuing the demanding coursework and clinical training that medical school requires. This approach allows me to keep my hands in direct patient care, applying what I鈥檝e learned while continuing to grow in knowledge, skill, and confidence.

This path is more than a degree; it鈥檚 the blueprint for the professional I want to become. Nursing has already taught me that excellence is built on preparation, perseverance, and purpose. Whether I鈥檓 at the bedside in scrubs or diagnosing patients in a white coat, I will carry with me the same commitment: no excuses, only action, growth and service.

BLS pay estimates calculate the median annual wage for various occupations. Per the BLS the median wage for an occupation is: "The wage at which half of the workers in the occupation earned more than that amount, and half earned less. Median wage data are from the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey." Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook 2024. BLS median wage estimates do not represent entry-level wages and/or salaries. Multiple factors, including prior experience, age, geographic market in which you want to work, and degree level and field, will affect career outcomes, including starting salary and earnings as an experienced employee. Herzing neither represents that its graduates will earn the median salaries calculated by BLS for a particular job nor guarantees that graduation from its program will result in a job, promotion, particular wage or salary, or other career growth.
